Norwegian Salmon Market in Vietnam Shows Strong Growth, Driving Expansion and Reinforcing Quality Standards

In 2025, Vietnam’s salmon market recorded remarkable growth, reaching approximately 21,300 metric tons in consumption — an increase of 21% compared to 2023. This upward trend reflects a significant shift in consumer behavior, as Vietnamese consumers increasingly recognize Norwegian salmon as a premium and reliable source of daily nutrition.

Entering 2026, the market is expected to maintain strong momentum, supported by the expansion of modern retail channels and foodservice sectors, together with the growing strategic partnership between Vietnam and Norway in trade, industry collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

According to Ms. Åshild Nakken, Regional Director for Southeast Asia at the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC):

“Progress is reflected not only in trade volumes, but also in stronger market capabilities, closer business partnerships, and greater alignment in standards and trust — all essential foundations for sustainable long-term growth.”

Looking ahead, Vietnam remains a highly promising growth market for Norwegian salmon, as per-capita consumption is still at an early development stage. With continuous improvements in cold-chain infrastructure, food safety standards, and consumer awareness, Norwegian salmon is expected to become an increasingly essential part of Vietnamese dining culture and modern foodservice operations.
